My axolotls gills are naturally black as he is a black wild type, but Ive recently transfered him into a quarantine tub as he is floating. His gills are now turning red, i dont have a airstone in the tank. DO i need to get one? or do i leave him alone. What should I do? what does this mean? please help.

Hello , yes you should put your axolotl in a shallow tub with an air stone for a few days

you should also test for ammonia and reduce this problem , also make sure water temperature always stays the same . How old is your axolotl?

I’m new with axolotl’s my self but I have a 10 months old and 2 7 month olds and we have. Wen doing tons of research hope this helps you

he is 9 months! I think it is a active thing, as last night they were extremely red and he was swimming around alot, and now theyve gone back to black. Any tips for him to stop floating?

Put your axi in a container big enough where it is able to still move around maybe gassy and needs to release the gas that may help what are you feeding ? Usually it’s normal for them to go tot he too and get some air but if it’s constant you need to keep an eye on it , is it in a tank with and other axolotl’s?

Look up on YouTube Axolotl’s health Issues & treatments / what to do if your axolotl is sick this may help you more . Hope this helps amd your little one gets better
