Illness/Sickness: Bloat on new gold axolotl

A few weeks ago I bought two new axolotls, one of them was a juvenile gold. Last week I noticed her becoming bigger, at first I thought she was well-fed, but after a while I saw that it wasn't normal... Now I know, after doing some research, that my axolotl is suffering from bloat

A couple of days ago I put her in the fridge and gave her a saltbath, but it didn't work. Yesterday I brought her to the vet, he gave me some antibiotics to put in her water and to keep her a while out of the fridge. She's out of the fridge for just one day and she became worse... I put her back in again, but still giving the antibiotics.

Is there anything I can do? Is it useful to go to another vet and ask him to take some fluide away and see if it comes back? I've heard some awfull stories about bloat and I really want the best for my axolotl, the other new axie is fine.

You have to determine the reason for the bloat. If it's renal failure, there isn't anything you can do. If its an infection, antibiotics should helps. Definitely have the vet drain some of the fluid until you can get a diagnosis.

I hope it isn't failure... Could it be from change in food? The last owners gave her axolotl pellets and bloodworms and I give her earthworms and sometimes a piece fish/meat.

Is she looking a little bit better or is it just me? (Look attached photo)

She's still on antibiotics and if I don't see much approvement after this weekend, I'll look for a vet to remove the fluid and take a look at it.

Yes, she's looking so much better! She's still in the fridge, but I stopped giving her antibiotics (because I used it all up). I hope she's going to stay this way, but I'm keeping her in the fridge for a few more days, just to be sure! She won't eat easily, but I make sure she eats a little every day :happy:

So happy for you, SHe does look a lot better, please keep us informed if there are any more changes. I am glad to see a positive out come with bloat. Gives me a little bit of hope incase it ever happems to mine.
