I was just at the NY show and bought some B. dofleini from Regal Reptile. I saw somebody else get a bunch at the same time. Between the 2 of us we bought out the vendor. I occured to me that maybe the other guy was "one of us" from this group, but I didn't get a chance to find out. did anybody here buy Bolitoglossa at the NY Show today?

Hi Greg
I just got home from the show. Shawn at Regal told me he sold out of the Bolitoglossa. Alfred Ojeda had some left. I passed. I have enough amphibians for now. I picked up a few things at Black Jungle and visited with some people. The show was a mob scene. When we left they were counting the people that left and letting people in to replace them. I think I might have seen you. I looked straight at this guy and thought he looked familiar. I was wearing a t shirt with lots of salamanders on it.

I had 2 kids with me and we left by 10:45. we were there less than an hour.

Ah... so that other guy with the Bolitoglossa is Alfred Ojeda. I got Dermophis from him.

Greg,
Keep them pretty dry with a high humidity. I stack several pieces of cork over a slightly moistened cypress substrate and then mist the upper surface of the cork. Feed about 6 crickets apiece every day as they are often totally lacking in any fat reserves.
Let me know how you make out.

Ed

We got their around 10.00 and left around noon. Alfred has a shop at 626 Main St. in New Rochelle. Alfred usually has some salamanders. Their weren't many salamanders but lots of frogs at the show. We have a 3.5 hour drive to go to the show. It was o.k. but I still like the Hamburg, Pa. show best.

Ed,

so yet again I have something on sphagnum that doesn't want to be on sphagnum eh? Time to go to home depot and get some soil for the Dermophis and some cypress mulch for the Bolitoglossa!

Hi Greg,

I kept them in FL for almost two years before loosing them all quite suddenly. For me I used the same terraria we would acclimate Cyrtodactylus in but with a lot more climbing cover as mentioned. Sand/Peat instead of cyprus for me and babied them for a while with roaches instead of crickets. When I did feed crickets I pulled the legs. Think touchy Cyrtodactylus and hopefully it will go well. I tried plants for a while but they went unused and took space available for usable climbing structure. I strongly suspect my problems were water quality related BTW but they declined in the "usual" Bolitoglossa fashion one by one over the course of a couple of weeks.

Okay. so this weekend I need to get rid of the sphagnum. got it.

The peat moss could have definetly been a problem. I strongly suspect that they may have problems with osmotic regulation if kept too moist. The group I had at work we have for more than 4 or five years.

Ed

Ed,
Do you feed them daily all the time or just during acclimation periods?

Hi Greg,
I would recommend daily feedings for about two months and then the feedings can be decreased to two to three times a week depending on the temperature.

I changed out the tank to mulch and bark piles. I had intended to use the "jungle mulch" or whatever it is called from... uh... zoomed maybe... but it smells like cedar. So I stuck with the orchid bark.

in any case, nothing dead yet!

I'm so sad. I've been going to the NY Show forever, but I never find fun stuff like that. I couldn't go to this one, and i've already heard that there were caecilians there. I've got my fingers crossed for the January show. Alex.
