Hi Yago, very nice! How old are they?

Can i ask about your water temperature and what you have done to bring them into condition?

Hi Colin
I don't know their age. I was searching for this variety for a long time already. And finally last spring I found somebody that kept the original breeding group of this specie. I book the animals long time ago and I finally got them at Gersfeld. I am also keeping an adult breeding group of t.karelinii from Ukrainia (they are already 2 years old), another from Krasnodar (Russia) and juveniles from Georgia which I will need to wait a couple of years to get them in breeding mode.
I kept several species in outdoors aquariums in winter to guarantee their breeding condition. Still not to cold though since water temperature is just 12 Cº at the moment. Hopefully water temperature will drop to 6-10 Cº in the following months which should be enough for breeding success. Fortunately, here there are no freezing problems.
I am also keeping t.carnifex macedonicus as well, unfortunately the males are not yet in breeding mode. As soon as I get them I will post some pics and hopefully I will have some juveniles available this year for other enthusiasts

Thanks for the reply Yago... look forward to when you have surplus...

I have carnifex and CB cristatus (from Chas Snell) that I hope to get breeding by Spring. right now i have them in an out building with natural day lengths and a temperature in the water of between 5 at lowest to 10 degrees today (sun was out for a change).

In both species the males are growing crests and have swollen cloacas... I am still feeding them on earthworms.

cheers
Colin

i should also mention i have the males and females apart in different tanks just now

Hi Yago,

Wonderful crest. What about your last pair of T. dobrogicus? Mine´s are crested at this moment.

Xavier.

Yes, this is a beautiful variation of T. karelinii. I’ve kept this variation for some time too, particularly the belly is magnificent. I hope you can breed them, there aren’t too many left.
