I have a bristlenose in with my 6 Axolotls too Brendan, for the same reason you do. As you say they're very vigilant, very quick things and I doubt my axolotls could catch it.

It does a great job getting rid of any algae too.

Ive had my little catfish in there for yonks an hes doin alright as long as hes got somewhere to hide i had another type of sucker fish in there and an my big axie got one of its spines impaled in its mouth make sure you pick one without spines or itll end in tragedy but my little bristtle noes loves it in there
