While researching enclosures for tylos I have came across some interesting designs.
My question is towards the more terrestrial species including T. shanjing.

I have seen vivariums for sale that stand around 6-8 inches tall and have a viewing panel on the side and viewing panel on the lid. really secure lids with latches. With reptile vents.

I believe their designed for corn snakes or gecko starter kits.

24 x 18 x 8 approx

I was wondering could you build something either using glass or acrylic for the viewing panels.

Would these be suitable with the addition of a watering bowl. Or better using tubs and tanks?

Can you post a photo of the kind of setups you are talking about? Also, it's unclear whether you are thinking of building an entire setup, or just using glass or acrylic to add windows to the setups you are talking about.

As the ones available are small I was thinking of building a entire setup. Will try find image of the idea.

Apologies best picture could find but gives the general idea.

I have seen these and they are good for snakes but they are made of wood so the damp enviroment might no be good for them, i also like plenty of ventilation.
Something similar in plastic might be good, i have seen something similar made for tarantulas, you can find them under tarantula enclosures on a certain auction website.
I have also think the tub you are using might look good if you cut out a large panel from the side and glue a glass panel in its place for a better viewing.
Just a few ideas.

Like I said before Sean over PM, I really don't think these are very good for any animal. At the end of the day predators to certain species more than likely attack from above (such as birds etc) so entering a tank from above in my opinion would be exactly the same, I have noticed some Tylo's perform Mimicry more when entering a tank from above as opposed to the front/side. I use open top Clear Seals etc all the time but not out of preference and pretty soon every Amphibian I have will soon be housed in E.N.T Style tanks or similar which have doors on the front. Also being an amphibian they would require moisture, and like Martin said the moisture will just destroy the wood and cause it to swell and warp, I have stupidly done this myself when I was younger when I housed a Humid species in a Wooden Viv. Still got the viv and its pretty much wrecked if I wanted to use it for display purposes.

I did however originally thought your Tylototriton Project design was a huge Exhibit with access to staff only doors in the back of the enclosure. Also if this is for a zoo such as Chester or the like, You would still need to put a Padlock on the front which doesnt look great anyway in a Aesthetics point of view. Or you would have to have locks on the sides which sort of stops you almost from being able to put other enclosures right next to it.

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks Martin that's a great idea. Might need a trip to hobby craft.

Thanks josh put the thread up before getting your reply. While researching my design was looking for off show cage ideas. Then thought I know a carpenter could knock something up and acrylic sheets are reasonable.

My tylo enclosure still working on it but is going be a big exhibit.
