I've seen that people use calcium sand for reptiles and such...
so I was wondering if calcium sand is also safe for axolotl tanks?

Thanks :)

It would not be safe to use a whole layer of it on the bottom of the tank. It will tend to raise the pH, potentially excessively. It can be a useful additive for people who have problems with their aquarium water pH dropping too much. A handful of calci-sand in the filter will moderate the pH.
