Calendar Competition Finalists!

Dear Finalists,

I've noticed that I've received very few photos so far. Of those I have received, some people are sending me very small versions of the photo. I need the original images you got out of your camera. These are usually files several megabytes in size. Small photos like those people post on the website here are not suitable for printing in the calendar.

To those who haven't sent nothing yet, please hurry. You may delay the calendar if you do not!

We've a few stragglers yet to send their photos in. We're considering going to other people for those photos because we can't wait any longer. The winners will be announced some time in the next few days. However if the winners named don't come up with their original photos like "yesterday" we will pick replacement winners for those people.

We've also got a unique situation with one of the winners and that situation must be resolved before we go forward. The ball is in that person's court right now.

you will have to excuse me for catching this so late. i have had a very hecktic couple weeks. my grandfather passed away and i have been out of town and away from a computer for a while. i no longer have the original photos. i have resized them and i cannot get the quality from the original any longer. is there a way to enlarge the photos back to the original size without losing quality in the picture?? i should have just taken new pics instead of using the old ones.....oh well. maybe for the next calendar eh. good luck people!

So when do we get to buy some calendars?

Sorry about that, John. I didn't catch this post earlier. I emailed you and Ed as well.

If not anybody replies, how about some cut epic in the calendar for christmas? (December) Liek a kissing pic? That would be cute. Just an idea

We're going to announce the winners soon I believe. Unfortunately most of the finalists didn't come through with their photos, and several who did did so much later than requested.

I find it hard to muster the enthusiasm for a project when the collective couldn't be bothered.

So we've decided to drop some of the original winners for those who came slightly further behind in the judging. All of the top 20 photos are first rate so "one is as good as another". Tough luck to the finalists who didn't mail their photos. You've only yourselves to blame. I've a good mind to name you so people know who to blame for the delay in the calendar, but you don't deserve the name recognition of being winners.

No, I am not happy.

By the way, as soon as the winners are named the calendar should be available within 2-3 days (sooner if it's a weekend).

Thanks John we appreciate all of you who are involved in this project I for one am waiting to here the results

John,
Thanks for sticking with this. It will turn out really well. All of the pics in the finals are excellent, and the subject lends itself to great photos. This kind of frustration frequently happens with volunteer orgs. But in my experience, the results are worth the aggravation. Certainly being able to showcase beautiful Caudata is worth this. John, you have done so much that is important to the concerns of the caudata community. I hope you can find some comfort in the appreciation so many of us have for what you have done.
And Merry Christmas!

The effort for this is much appreciated John. I look forward to the calendar just as everyone else does.

In the future, it would maybe be wise to keep email addresses of the finalists, and send them all 2 emails, one request and one warning a week after. A lot of people here don't check the forum daily and if they did, maybe looked over this thread. A lot more people check their email daily.

We have repeatedly emailed these people. That's not the issue.

i was about to suggest emailing-i had one of my pics on the finalist page but didnt realise til a friend of mine emailed me to congraulate me-as i dont often check the site, or if i do its only the areas relevant to the species i keep which i check. Then it was a frantic rush to get the pictures sent off-but i think i JUST made the deadline-apologies if i didn't!

Well, we only pursued the people who entered the top 13 photos.

You guys are all so talented!!!! How were you able to ever choose 13 out of so many outstanding photos? You should do a 365-day calendar next year!!

I was just shopping for calendars the other day and remember wondering why there were no salamander and newt calendars. I found several for frog lovers.

Have you given any consideration to possibly marketing this in the future? It would be a lovely way to raise public awareness...

Look forward to seeing the calender, hope I can buy one!
