Can flies be dangerous?

We had a couple of flies in the house, and I stunned them and fed them to Noun and Verb (my axolotls). They ate them almost instantly, but now i'm wondering if flies would be bad for their stomachs?
They're very fussy little guys, so what else would you suggest feeding them? Verb will only eat it if it's wriggling and Noun just goes through moods.

:peace:

The main risk with flies I think is the chance of them coming in contact with some form of pesticide but even then I don't think the axies will consume enough to make a difference.

Flies make a good food item for your axolotl, although, as Justin says, it depends where they've been before you feed them. Flies tend to be attracted to unpleasant places :uhoh:. I would be hesitant to use wild flies for this reason. You can easily grow your own blue bottle flies from bait shop maggots. In fact, from a nutritional perspective you'd be better off feeding fly maggots rather than the fly itself.

For food inspiration take a look at these articles:

As they told you it is nothing advisable ... We both know what the flies go to eat (or not, in the case of pesticides) and may do harm to axies.

I think not worth taking the risk when you have another type of food will be available. Or there this, as Mark said, you can make your culture;)

All the best

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
