u can use lighting and i would encourage it to help with some vitamin production. just have to watch what type of lighting you use as some lighting burns cold and some burns hot and some burns in between.
im no expert on lights so the actual type of lights you can use you would have to ask someone else lol
Wolfie
its not only the water that will get hot but also the cushion of air on top-this will be hard on your newt if it has a land area or even a place to come out of the heat buffering/absorbing water. what size tank and what sort of light source? how high above the water level (is there land?) is the light? is the tank top a screen or a plastic closed in one? what is the room temp that the tank is in?
wolfie-as far as i know there is no benefit to caudates from light-they are nocturnal and thus can make their own vitamins w/o the sun.
