Here are some pictures. They are just looking weird and red at the tips.
There is only one more guppie with him that stays mostly at the top.
He is eating fine. Worms, pellets, blood worms, etc.
Any ideas?
Temp 66.4 F
Ammonia 0ppm
The one that looked curled and the one that I am concerned for are ones that. Grew out since I rescued him from a KOI at a store.
The one that I am concerned about grew into like two. Instead of being just one branch witj little hair like gills is like a Y. Idk if that has anything to do with the problem now.
He is a fighter so I would hate for something to happen to him now.

I have 2 sponge air pump filters. I have 1 small guppie... if need be I can take him out and move him to a mother tank.
This just happened from yesterday to today.
I also was able to without knowing take pictures of what it looked like yesterday when I was doing another photo shoot of him.
I can kind of see a white like dot, not fuss or slime just like a white like pimple you could say right in the middle of where the gills are splitting.
I will add photos.

Yesterday I tried to get a better picture of the affected gills.
They don't seem burned just redder than the rest of the feather looking ones.

I'm not sure what could be wrong, usually if there gills are curling its from a filters flow being to strong. Is he acting differently or as if nothings wrong? And is the guppy a feeder fish, it shouldn't be to much of a problem but other fish tend to stress out axolotls and bite their gills thinking its worms.

The guppie has been there for about 1 month.
It doesn't matter of he eats it. He ate one at one point and he always hunting for the other but hasn't caught it.
Dud you see the white pimple like dot the day before? I posted pics. The gills weren't red just the white pimple looking dot and the next day, they were red but the feathers still look ok.

I just hope is not something from the worms I just started like a week ago. I bought them from petsmart.

What worms are you feeding him, how much, and how old? And my only guess on the white spot is ich or fingus but i wouldn't jump to cures as it could make him worse. Gills getting curved are either from stress, genetics, or filter flow. How big is his tank and how old is he?

They are just regular worms. I feed 1 or 2.
I know abiut the flow and the curled gills. Is at the lowest setting. Should i just put 1 Instead?
I have had 2 for about 3 months and the ones that are curled to the front are always just the 2 that grew back. The two that got chopped and grew back are the ones that always curl up.
So I guess I will take out one filter

I wouldn't take out the filter. Even with two, since their spong filters and at low flow its probably not that. I had two filters and never had an issue. Did his gills get bad when he got the worms? I'm not sure what caused his gills to curl, maybe contact a breeder or someone experienced?

I think i will, the Gills cureld before the worms. The worms I started a week ago because he wouldn't take them. He does now.
I have had them at room temperature but they are still alive. Could that have something to do?

Yes they just say worms.
They are medium size I think. I can upload a picture of the package.

Huh that’s interesting, I think those are red wigglers. My general store by my house has the same seller, usually their packages say nightcrawlers and red worms. Red wigglers produce a foul tasting bile when eaten, probably why your baby was refusing. Next time you get worms, I would get the ones in red container, it should say nightcrawlers. Maybe your store doesn’t have them though. You can reduce the bile by running them under hot water for a second, and hen dipping them in cold water so once they are dead they won’t cook. Seachem Garlic Guard worry’s as well

Is weird that you say they produce this nasty tasting bial because I have noticed that when he eats them (now I don't cut them I just feed full) once he squishes them they let out this smoke or liquid that makes it look like smoke type of thing.
Is weird. I thought it was because they were room temperature.
But I will look for different ones. For some reason right now they are OOS every where.

Hello again i have new updates. So his gills are back to normal apparently but I was just staring at him today and I was going to clean my tank because even though I cleaned it and did a water change less than a week ago I have a spike on this green stuff in my rock and the glass. I also found these hair looking worms. I had to look very close. Some don't move and some seem to be moving. Are they good, bad, should I scrub them off?
I am freaking out...
Idk if the others are eggs.
How can I get rid of them. I freaken out and I took my axy out on a 5 gallon for now, until I know what's going on.

He is doing great. I tubbed him while I did a 40 %water change and cleaned his rocks that had the green slime. I also vaccines the sand for extra left over food.
I think he liked the change also because he is swimming more and is super happy. His gills are 100 again.

Sorry, I never realized you replied 😬
Scrub those worms/eggs you saw on your tank. Do you have any live plants that came from water when you bought it? It might be from that. Good to hear his gills are better tho

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
