Is there anyway to keep my axies from breeding? (for future reference). I wont have the room or time to raise little ones...
I know there proably isn't anyway except seperating them to stop them but just a question lol

The only way to really stop them is to a.) only have one, or b.) have all of the same sex.

i have no idea if its a possible way of stopping axolotls from breeding but would removing the spermatophores stop the eggs from being fertilised. i have never seen them. only seen pics and heard about them so i would have no idea if it would work, plus not knowing when they actually do it but it might reduce how often they lay eggs.

You could remove the spermatophores, but finding them might be difficult, they are pretty small... I didn't notice my axies second batch of spermatophores until I saw eggs. And then chances are that a female has already "taken" one.
Also the constant spawning might stress the male and lead to sickness.

My axie Phil only started spawning when I put him in a tank with a light. Maybe a dark tank might reduce chances of spawning?

Yeah, you've gotta get to the spermatophores before the females do. Last time mine spawned (no fertile eggs), I saw 5 spermatophores, and removed them promptly, and the female still laid eggs. I would liken this to the 'pull-out' method. It just doesn't work.

Too bad they don't make axolotl condoms.
