help.. has any one ever heard of a growth which is in the mouth of the axie to pervent it from eatting? well if so can anyone give me info on what it is, and what can i do to make her not suffer if she is going to die.

Hi. wow you're the only other person that i've heard who has that sort of problem. Yesterday my axie looked as if he has a cut and bruising on his mouth. however today it looks a bit like fungus. So i'm thinking of salt bathing him first. Then if that doesn't help i'll use betadine and buy some treatment. How fatal is mouthrot and how much time do you have to tret it? Thanks

My axie also has only 2 gills on one side of his head. Is this normal?

no, they should have 3 on each side. are there other tank mates?, they probly would of biten his gill of by accident. thats a good idea, salt baths always work, make sure the treatment you give him is not harmful to axolotls. theres a list of the non harmful treatments somewere on www.axolotl.org.

Thanks for that Alex. I've only had him for 2 weeks now and i think it was gone when i bout him. His mouth is looking really bad this morning. I salt bathed him last night. How long will the salt baths take to work? Do you know how long they can stay out of water for as well?

Hi guys i'm having this same trouble too. My axie looks like she has a bad cold sore on her mouth. I salt bathed her last night and am about to give her another one. what should i do?

salt baths are always working, it depends on the size of the infection or the type of desiese as to how long it will take the salt baths to get rid of it. jodi, i would just keep giving salt baths, and keep ur axie in the fridge. if it looks like the salt baths arnt working and the size of the infection is getting bigger i would get some sort of treatment. harold, its best that u dont have your axie out the water, and when you do make it the least amount of time possible. hope i helped.

and remember 2 salt baths a day. for about 10-15 minutes each.

Thanks so much Alex. I'm keeping up with the salt baths. Any tips on getting her to eat? I've tried pellets, worms and fish? Do you think she's not eating due to the sore on her mouth?

umm probly, does she try to eat at all?. its most likely that its the sore. every time she trys to eat the food will rub the sore and make it hurt probly. axies have been known to live a long time without food, but keep trying every now and then. i dont know much about force feeding because iv never done it. maybe someone else on this forum knows a bit about it, hopefully you wont have to resort to that. make sure when you feed her that you put the food right up to her mouth and wriggle it around. also were do u get your fish that you feed her, gold fish from the pet store often hold nasties which could spread to your axies.
