Ceramic Tile for the Newts? Yay or Nay...

I keep my alpines, dobrogicus, and other newts in semi aquatic bare aquariums, with live aquatic plants and rocks to climb out upon.
I was considering cutting some ceramic tile in stone type colors, to fit the aquarium bottoms, mostly for aesthetic purposes, but who knows – maybe the newts would like it better than bare glass too?
My question is would the ceramic tile pose any danger to the newts? I don’t know if there are any toxins in the ceramic tile that could not be washed away, etc. And if anyone had tried this before? All feedback appreciated!

Some members have used slate tiles with very interesting results, you might want to do a search for that.

The real danger from ceramics is the glazes, not the stoneware itself. Some glazes use lead, which is obviously not safe.

Tiles though should be fine. I can't imagine lead in those.
