Do larvae shed skin before they morph? My eggs hatched last month but I noticed today that one of them had shed skin.
Also, I attached a photo of the the lil guy & was wondering if that's what shrinking gills look like? (I'm worried about how to tell when they're about to morph)

Yes, the newt in the picture is in the process of morphing. Just make sure his tank is escape proof and that he has somewhere to rest to prevent drowning.
I've never seen one shed before morphlng, once they have morphed they will shed just like adults, but as far as I'm aware larvae don't shed.

Thanks, I moved him to a slightly bigger container & added a rock for him :)

I just noticed that he shed again & one other larvae (one of my bigger/older ones whose gills are shrinking too) is in the process of shedding? Could it be some sort of health issue that looks like shedding?
