I am very thankful I found this forum, as before I had a pretty bad setup for my CFBNs. I have a bare-bottom tank, with a piece of sunken driftwood that has java ferns attached to it with rubber bands. I have a microsword left floating, I'm hoping it'll soon be growing a little bit more, although it is green and looking pretty good. I have a big bunch of floating hornwort as well. I have a 25 watt light for this enclosure, a 20 gallon long. I have the light on for 4 hours daily. I also have a filter manufactured for 7 gallon, and I think once I go through these next few cartridges I'll stop using it completely and let the plants take over. I'll post pictures once the plant growth really gets going, and in fact my java fern are multiplying as we speak.

Sounds like a cool set up. Looking forward to seeing it.

Even if it is a small filter, try to minimize the current while you are still using it. Other than that, it sounds good. Once the plant revolution is completed you´ll see a big difference...your life and your newt´s will become significantly better xD

Thanks, I'l probably post pictures closer to summertime, when it's hopefully flourishing.

Just added some floating water wisteria.

Justa a question: How often do you do water changes? I like the idea of using a small filter for minimize the water flow but do this impact in the water quality?

The water wisteria died but my java fern is getting pretty big, and I'm getting a few moss balls and possibly some other plants in a few weeks. The filter probably makes a small difference, but I'm removing it next month.
