I finally got my newt to eat after 2 days of not eating. The only thing is, what I got him to eat was little pieces of Kraft Singles American cheese. Is that healthy for newts?

Almost certainly not.

Those aren't even healthy for people. Newts are carnivorous, and wouldn't be eating cheese in the wild. 2 days without food is NOT a long time. Mine have gone over a month without food with no ill effects.

I would not feed him any more of that "cheese."

Out of curiosity, why did you decide to try cheese at all? Now that you have gotten it to eat something, you should try offering more traditional food items. Have patience, it may take more than 2 days but your newt will be much healthier on foods that are more natural for it to consume. Good luck with your new acquisition,
Heather
