So with the incoming heat waves coming here in the UK I have bit the bullet and invested in a chiller as the aquarium fans are just not cutting it.

Originally I wanted to hook the chiller to my FX2 filter, but had a problem getting it connected to my tank. I have the Fluval Roma 240 which has the filter pipes going from underneath the tank.

So i have had to hook it up to a pump which is inside the tank. Chiller is working fine, but have a couple of questions or concerns,

I have the Hailea Water Chiller - HC-300A, and to my understanding the chiller kicks in when 1c above set temperature. So ive set it to 17c. But im a bit worried about the temperature Fluctuations. It will lower the temp to 17c relatively quickly, but then it will rise again to 18c. Won't these swings be stressful to my axolotl?

Also, is there anything I can get for the pump that now sits inside the tank? I'm concerned that it will pull any detritus through the chiller. My tank is relatively clean, but you just never know.

have the inlet and outlets at opposite sides of the tank to each other, this should make the temperature swings more tolerable.
ideally a filter should be fitted to the inlet to help prevent build up of debris and algae in the chiller and pipes, check the instruction manual for cleaning (may require occasional back flushing).
