I am going to replace the substrate of my tiger salamander cage because it smells bad at this point

But my question is once I take the dirt out should I use bleach or is that to risky? Maybe hot water ?

Thanks for advice

If it's just routine cleaning and you are not trying to disinfect (like say, following an illness) I would only use hot water. When I clean the plastic containers I rear juveniles in I use hot water only, not even soap, for fear of not getting it all rinsed out. However, if you are concerned about a contagious illness than I think a 10% bleach solution would be appropriate, but be sure to rinse really well. And then rinse some more :)
