Cleaning wounds?

one of my little fellows has just cut his lower jaw it's only a minor gash but my problem is that he's also managed to lodge 2 little sand pebbles in the wound, i've got him soaking in a salt bath at the moment, should i attempt to remove the sand or should i leave the little guy?

ignore that, he thrashed around a bit when i had him in the salt bath and it's dislodged both bits of sand thank goodness.
