Hello,

I have some questions about juvies, growth and colouring. My specific lotl is a 4 mth old GFP leucistic (parents were GFP Wildtype and GFP Melanoid). If you have any advice/ photos on what to expect for colouring as it grows let me know!

-At what point to juveniles stop being see through?

-At approximately what age do leucistic animals tend to start showing "freckles"? Will they be black and yellow or both?

-Are we all 100% confident that my axie won't eat until it explodes? Because I have yet to see it quit because it's full, and it looks full to me for sure ha ha. It was the largest in it's batch of 43 babies, I swear I can see it growing.

-What is the average size at 1 year old?

-Are all measurements people discuss on here of the entire axolotl? (body + tail)

-Do male or females seem to grow faster? I know in the end females tend to be wider

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure when they stop being see-through - never thought to watch for that.

Freckles are a fickle thing ... they come and go. By that age, some have freckles. Yellow freckles usually aren't noticeable.

I have not heard of an axie eating until it explodes. Feed it as much as it wants to eat, just don't leave leftovers.

At 1 year, they are pretty near their full adult size, so maybe around 9". But yours may be bigger or smaller.

Yes, length includes the tail, unlike "fish" standard measuring.

I don't know if there is a growth rate difference. If there is, that might explain why I have more males than females, since I tend to keep larger babies from the batches of eggs I raise.

I won't lie- I am concerned that being able to see the intestines is going to turn me into a worry factory! I need to not be able to see organs, stat. Little weirdos haha

I kind of want him/her to have freckles. Not like it matters, but there are some really neat freckle patterns on here and I dig it.

I am comforted by hearing there are no pre-exsisting exploding juvies. I don't know if mine is capable of leaving leftovers. Half a jumbo bloodworm cube a day, huge full belly and in 15-20 minutes there is not a shred of anything left. I'm willing to up it if suggested?

How big is your biggest? Any photos?

Thanks again for all your help!

My female started getting some grey specks on her face around a year or so. They continue to get a little more pronounced as she gets older, but they're not black like of the true "freckled" leucistics I've seen.
