Communication by tail fanning?

Yesterday my female Paramesotriton chinensis were fighting, in one moment the "holding" female started fanning her tail (definetely not in a way newts use to just turn themselves around) and it reminded me about several mentions i've read throughout the years about communication between Pachytriton by tail fanning also outside breeding season. I have also witnessed this behaviour in other cases in warty newts (Chinese and Hong Kong ones), wondering if some of you have similar observations, some thoughts or researched info about it?

It´s common for newts to tail-fan when threatened by other newts.

But the female i mentioned was the threatening one. And i also saw newts fanning without any agressive or breeding behavior.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
