About a year ago my axolotl started getting fungus on her gills. I treated using a 15min black tea bath and the fungus went away, only to return a few months later. Treated again, it went away, came back a few montha later, rinse and repeat. Now, the problem is constant. The fungus appears, I treat with daily tea baths and manually removing the fungus (as gently as I can, using very small pipette) but it just keeps coming back. It grows on 2 gills now and on both there is a patch where the filaments are unable to regrow. I'mworried because having constant infections and baths must be stressful for her. She is 7 years old now and isnt as active as she used to be. I'm also worried because when she moves, her tail is raised at probably just under a 45 degree angle which isn't usual. It goes back down when she's still. There was poo in the tank this monday so I don't think its impaction.
Had problems with water quality a few weeks ago, ammonia was 0.25 ppm but everything is good now (ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm, nitrate 20ppm). The water is 15 degrees c, and I leave the water to sit overnight before changing (to get rid of dissolved gas, i of course use a dechlorinator as well). I spot clean every day, do weekly water change and clean her canister filter every 3 months. She eats a worm every other day like normal. I'm really worried about all this and feel like I'm not looking after her properly. I'm not sure what to do about this problem
