Hello! It's been a while.
I've finally moved to a larger apartment, and I'm ready to begin the process of upgrading my axolotl tank. Puck is currently sitting in a 20 gallon, with a Marina filter, a sponge filter, an air stone, a refrigeration unit locking it at 62F (good upwards of 80 gallons), with sand substrate, LED timed lights feeding two plants (a struggling java fern and anubias nana), and some stubborn snails and algae.
Initially, when I first got this set up about three years ago, I thought it would be plenty great (the minimum I looked up said "10 gallons", so I splurged on 20). However, it seems that 20 is actually the real minimum, and while he's plenty happy (no curled girls, plenty of hides, behavior swaps between characteristic axolotl laziness, to goofy and curious about what's outside), I want to up him to maybe a 40 or even 60 gallon. I want this to be axolotl heaven. I love the little guy.
The thing is, I'm wildly OCD (actually) and want to make sure I understand absolutely everything from the initial setup, environment design, filter/sump stuff, how to handle particular incidents, more advanced aspects of water balance, and all that, so these questions would bump a thread indefinitely. I feel pretty unconfident in Frankenstein-ing all the knowledge I've picked up here and elsewhere, especially when, at times, information can conflict. To that end, I'd love to be able to actively consult (on an instant messaging basis like Discord, not live call) an expert with excellent husbandry/aquarium know-how, ideally one who has a history of ensuring quality and longevity of life for their little 'lotls. This is asking a lot, so I'm willing to pay for the consultation if that's what's needed, to ease the pain of me asking and reiterating questions for a thorough understanding and ironing out every minute concern/gap in my knowledge.
Thank you in advance for your time!
