Crickets in a can?

Hello Everyone
While at Petsmart I saw cans that contain crickets. The cans say that the crickets in the cans are farm raised and are lock in their own juices.
Are crickets in a can any good for newts and salamanders?
I have only feed my newts live or frozen foods.
Just curious!

Don't know what exact product you are looking at but if you are talking of the freeze dried crickets(off the top of my head would be Flukers FD crickets) I doubt newts will eat them. If you want buy a few, but have something else to do with them if the newts don't eat them.

IMO some pellets would be a better option.

When things are canned there is a loss of some nutrients which is why fresh/frozen is always better.

If you want to use them as a part of the diet this is okay but you may have to tweezer feed them and they will go bad very quickly.

Hello Joseph & Edward
I will like to thank you both for taking the time to share your knowledge and opinions with me. The cans are not freeze dry and they have to be refrigerate after opening. The name of the brands are Jurassi Diet and Zoo Med's.

Hi Jennifer
I am glad that I did not buy any then. Instead wrote down the names of the brands and a little bit of information about what the cans say about the crickets and decided to check with this great forum!
Jennifer thank you for sharing your experience with the cans of crickets!
