Does anyone know the current laws on shipping caudates across state lines? I was aware of a potential upcoming ban but I had not heard of an end to the previous ban. Much appreciated.

There have been two pieces of legislation that could ban interstate shipping of caudates in the USA. I'm not sure which one you are referring to. One a few years ago was overturned by the courts. Another in 2021 is still in a senate committee, and could still happen, although it is looking unlikely. So shipping is currently legal at this moment, assuming that it's legal in the specific states involved.

Thanks! are there exceptions to this rule? While I don’t have a ton of information, so it might not even yield anything, I’m going to try and breed my California newts this year, and am wondering if they have special considerations because they are endangered.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
