Custom cave!!

I made my juvies a little cave!! Hopefully they fit...I didn't have enough clay. Maybe next time I'll get more.

I'm assuming since clay pots are okay to put in tanks, clay decorations are okay as well? Let me know if I'm wrong. I used Premo clay with no finish.

Well, polymer clays are not ordinary clay, so the name "clay" does not indicate safety.

I found this neat article Polymer Clay Cyclopedia- Polymer Clay Safety from someone who is adamant (and appears to have researched the issue) that polymer clays are safe for people.

So far, the information I've found on aquarium use says that it is safe.

I do not know if that means it will be safe for your axolotl (after all, I'm getting info from the internet). I hope it is because if so, you have just solved a problem for me - how to make short wide pots to plant my aquarium plants in.

Thanks! I always read it's okay for aquariums, just not sure if it's safe for the axolotls. I don't know why it wouldn't be? The only thing I can think of is maybe the dye of the polymer being slowly dissolved throughout the water or something. I guess we'll see.

Nice list. One thing to note on clay, polymer clay (primo/sculpey being the ones I have direct experience with) are also safe. They basically turn into plastic after they are baked. I have had several decorations in with my axolotls and turtles (not the same tank, don't worry!) for over a year with no problems.
