Qs about cycle tank
Yesterday I put a filthy piece of filter sponge (loaded with bacteria) , from existing tropical tank and put it in a axolotl tank (hasn't fully cycled) plus some a plant from existing tank.
How long will it take for the tank to cycle now I've added the additional bacteria and based on current parameters indicated. Also is it safe to put my axolotl in the tank with these readings whilst waiting for the tank to fully cycled, some say yes others say no and that the tank will take weeks to cycle.
Nitrate 2.0
Ammonia between 0pp - .0.25ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
PH 7.7 - 7.8

Cheers

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
