Hi all, D’Artagnan is doing well but it has been interesting! He has been tubbed with daily water changes, but 2 days ago he started thrashing around violently. He kept this up until I was pretty concerned. I checked the tank parameters, and while it wasn’t yet cycled, the ammonia and nitrites were pretty low. A few days ago I had put water from my betta tank in his tank and flip flopped their sponge filters since my betta tank is well established. I needed to get him a bigger tub, but he was going to hurt himself overnight if I didn’t do something.

So I put a small amount of Methylene Blue into his tank and let him stay the night there. In the morning I put him back in a fresh tub, and then I got a much bigger 40qt tub. That’s where he is now, with a hide, and now with a pump going.

I checked the parameters tonight and they are very good, but not quite there. .5 of Nitrite and .25 of Ammonia. Tomorrow I’m getting a friend’s used axie filter cartridge to help speed it along.

be aware that it has been noted that methylene blue can harm filter bacteria although as you say it was a small amount so any damage would be minimal, use activated carbon to remove from the water. it is always better to treat a axolotl in a tub as there is less chances of harming the filtration.
