Hi all,

here the continuation of my Kanto postings:

http://www.caudata.org/forum/messages/985/8289.html?1074976762

The first in metamorphosis. Have a look at the gill rests:

And the crazy female is still laying:

Mostly I feed them with "red belly feed" like Artemia, Daphnia, Sheet lice, Hyalella azteca.
Sometimes with red mosquito larva, black worms, Enchytraeuis albidus.
You see, that the belly tends to red already short time after metamorphosis:

And here in memory of, my breeding from last year.
Mostly I feed them with moina, red mosquito larva, black worms, Enchytraeuis albidus.
Sometimes with Artemia, Daphnia, Sheet lice, Hyalella azteca.
Yellow belly after metamorphosis.
But no problem. They will change to red too:

Very nice, Paul. That's also a nice variety of food you have available for them! My pyrrhogaster and ensicauda morphs only get pinheads and frozen bloodworm (those who will accept it being hand-fed, that is). My New Year's resolution for next year will have to be getting into cultivation of live food. I'm still working on this year's resolution, which was "consolidation".

Paul, there are very few pyrrhogaster left in Kanagawa Prefecture, where yours are from, partly because it's so urbanizedand partly because of the use of pesticides. It's where the big cities of Kawasaki and Yokohama are located and is right next to Tokyo. C.pyrrhogaster is listed as endangered in the prefectural Red Data Book, I hear. I might drive out to the less populated western part of the prefecture tomorrow with the wife and dogs, having recently seen pics of a pyrrhogaster habitat on the Web with location info.

And the following weekend, I'll be taking a trip with an sal expert to a remote northern area to observe Kanto pyrrhogaster feeding on tadpoles of a certain species of frog (Rhacophorus arboreus) as they fall from bubble nests built in trees. Anyone who can make it to Japan by then is welcome to join us!

Hi Tim,

thanks for this interesting information.
The location of my C.p.-Kanto is Kanagawa-Ken. No exact position.
I got them from an other German urodela friend who imported them some years before.
