Cynops pyrrhogaster prefer dark??

Hi, I have had my one pyrrhogaster for about 2 years ago, and when I moved him frog a 10 to a 20 gallon about a year ago, he was completly hidden, and never liked to come out from behind the rocks. When he was in the 10 he was always out. Anyways, when I turned off the light last week (to cool water) he came out, and has been out ever since, could his being out so much have something to do with the lights being out?

What kind of light are you using? I would imagine that a fluorescent bulb emits negligible heat. If you are using a different type of bulb that does significantly increase the temp, it may be the reduced temp that makes him more comfortable.

Another thing to consider is while some newts have no problem, others may take a while to adjust to a new setting even if it isn't dramatically different.

Mark, use a lot of plants at the water surface. So you have shadow in the tank and I think they will come out!

Hi, I have a floruesent, and he has been in the tank for over a year, I would think he is adjusted. There is a lot of plants on the surface. A bunch of Anarchis (however you spell it). Thanks though.
