Hi Cynthia,
You helped me a couple of weeks ago with my new tank cycling questions and you asked me to keep you informed as to whether i had any gill changes. Well about a 4 days after the peak of the problems my wild type axie had some shrinkage of her gills on the left side only, they also looked a little ratty. My golden albino's gills seemed to go a little pale.
Since then i am proud to say that both are eating like pigs, the nitrite is now 0, ammonia 0, nitrates are 0 and ph is 7.5. I am having trouble keeping my temp down as it is really humid here in Australia but have them in an air conditioned room with a fan blowing on the top of the water, the lowest i can get the temp is 20 degrees which is much better than 25 degrees which is what it was. I will look at getting a bigger tank in the future as i have heard it is easier to keep temps down. Once again thanks so much for your advice, thanks to you my axies lived and are extremely happy!!!

Cathy- Glad to hear the tank has cycled and they are eating well!

Thank you for letting me know about the gills.

Everyone who posts from Australia seems to be having heat problems as well. You might want to look into getting a chiller for your tank in the future. They are rather expensive though. I found some plans to make one out of a small fridge. I may try making one next month so I am ready for summer here.

Sorry it took me to so long to notice this post... it even had my name in the subject line, I must need new glasses

Yeah I think I will look into getting a chiller before next summer. Take care.
