Is anybody interested in a casual get together of a small group of caudata.org members in Washington D.C.? I'd propose meeting at the National Zoo to see the giant salamanders. I would try to arrange a special "behind the scenes" tour. Please let me know of your interest in doing this sometime early spring of 2010. I'm close by and plan on going some time next year.

Depending on how close it is to the herp week thing, I could be there.

You must have seen the same article on them that I just read. I told my wife I would like to go there and see them just 2 days ago. So I'd have to say I'm in. As long as its not in April. I guess the best way is to take a train or bus. Driving would have to be insane.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
