I've found that every time I have some water with daphnia in (including the tub I'm raising the newt larva in), I get some faint white 'gunge' on the surface of the water, and if the water surface is disturbed enough to form bubbles, the bubbles don't pop for a very long time.
This white stuff also appears to be very difficult to scrub off the insides of the container it is in.

If I get any of it in the larva's tub, I change enough of the water to get rid of it.

I was just wondering if anyone on here knows what it is, and, more importantly, could it be harmful to my larva?

Thanks in advance

Angie

I think the gunge you refer to is the water going stagnant the plants/algae cause this scum to form on the top. I sometimes get the scum in the tanks with my newts i do a water change normally, hope this helps

Its just waste from the decay plant and animal matter. Doing 10-20% water changes on your Daphnia is just as important as in the tank of fish or Axies to keep them from crashing.

I don't keep a tank of daphnia anymore, I just buy it when needed, but this info is a huge relief because I was worried it might be some sort of fungus.

Thank you!
