Dealing with broken bones

My darling little azumi, after living through food poisoning which killed 3 others, has managed to break two toes on both her back legs after tearing around the tank madly, she's been like this for the past two weeks and both legs are noticably swollen with her toes broken from the fracture and her appetite has decreased considerably since she's been stressed. Neither of the breaks have gone through her skin so salt baths are of no use, is there any thing that can be done in this scenerio or is it just a matter of waiting until the bones heal?

well you could put it in the fridge to relax it and im sure there is something you could put in the food to help those bones heal faster(unsure what)
but other than that theres nothing else i can add
also sorry about your other axies what poisioned them all?

I'm a bit reluctant to put her in the fridge because when i had the problems with the food, i pulled them all out of the tank because i thought it was the water quality that was causing the problems and she got really aggrovated being in the fridge and started going nuts everytime i did a water changes. The rest of them dealt with it fine and didn't stress out. I ended up putting her back in the tank and she relaxed a little and started taking food finally.

As to the rest of them, i was feeding meal worms as snacks every so often and i fed them some from a container that had been in my fridge for awhile and next day, all the mealworms in the container had died and that's when my little ones started to get sick and within a week i'd lost 3, and azumi, being the largest out of them all seemed to have a bit of resistance to them.

Hello,
I have never met such a problem, but i have some ideas if you want your axie to be better. Give hil/her some beef heart, i know it contains a lot of Calcium, essential for bone "repair". If you want to avoid infections (bacteriemy, little skin wounds, etc...), I think you can give him/her antibiotic in food. According to me, the best and safest is marbofloxacine (Baytril R in France) which is used for a lot of "exotic animals"...If you explain this problem to a vet, he'll certainly give you the antibiotic (it is some drinkable solution). I get information about the quantity to give and write you again.

Sorry, the right molecule is enrofloxacine, but it is the same family...the quantity to use, with Baytril 2.5% (for calves at first) is 0.2ml/kg, one time per day during 5 day...OK, it seems to be difficult to proportion but ,with dilution, it is possible. It can be an answer if she/he not get well soon. Bye

Hi Michael,

If I rememeber correctly, beef heart is a poor choice to supply calcium in the diet as it contains a very poor calcium to phosphorus ratio. This poor ratio will prevent the proper absorbtion of the calcium. When evaluating items in the diet, the amount of calcium may not matter (unless it is excessive enough to be toxic) if the diet has a poor ratio of calcium to phosphorus.

Just leave it to natural way of recovering, and just keep an eye on things...it will be alright

thanks for all the advice, I've been leaving her alone in the tank, offering her food if she wants it, though she's had little to no interest, but she's not freaking out, the cut on her side has healed so i'm hoping that is a sign she is starting to mend. She doesn't look overly well but i guess only time will tell.
