Diatom Filter

Hello Fellow Enthusiasts,
I was wondering if any of you had any experience with Diatom filters and their effects. I was thinking of a Vortex D-1 Diatom filter to help with my water clarity in my 40 g breeder. No, it is not a bacterial bloom as I have a well established cycle. I have duckweed on the surface and I think that the diatom filter will remove any leftover guppy scales and plant material.

All I know about diatom filters relates to swimming pools, and in swimming pools, diatom filters do an awesome job at producing nice, clear water.

Having said that, I believe they are just used for esthetics. If having super-clear water is important to you, than I see no reason not to use one in conjunction with a good bio-filter.
