Hello my name is Scott, im new to the forum. I was considering using some dichondra in my tiger salamanders enclosure as a ground cover. Ive read that it can be maintained in the shade, but other sources say that it required high light levels. Has anyone had any experiences with Dichondra?
Thank you,
-Scott

"Dichondra is a perennial weed that thrives in moist soils as a ground cover mat. It generally does not exceed 2 inches in height. Some varieties stand up well to traffic. Leaves are kidney-shaped with continuous, un-toothed margins and long petioles. Leaves are situated in an alternating fashion on the stem. Stems are thin and tend to have a creeping growth pattern. Flowers are very small and difficult to identify. Generally speaking, dichondra plants have limited tolerance to freezing."

To me it sounds like they wouldn't do too great in cool temperatures. Dichondra can survive in open shade but that doesn't mean that more light would necessarily be a bad thing.
