Tanks e.g. gallons. Why is is that say 35L in Uk gallons is 7.5 gallons whereas in US gallons it's just over 9 gallons? Does this affect the dimensions aswell?

Sory if I've posted this in the wrong section but I am just curious to know

It's old measurments and new measurments. It's like the US using Inches as opposed to Centimeters. It makes no sense and doesn't link together.:p

Ok I'm still kinda confused :S
Let's say we have a 40cmX33cmX28cm (LxWxfront to back) that holds 35 litres would all this be the same in America but just classing it as holding 9 gallons?

Yeh, they would just class it in their 'terms' basically. I'm kind of confused now too.

It may be confusing but basically British gallons are, unlike nearly anything else, bigger than American ones!

The American system uses 16 ounces to the pint the British 20. The ounces are nearly identical in weight. Inches and other length units are the are the same in both systems

Think metric, it's simpler.
