Diggestive problems!!

I've noticed that my pleurodeles ( all the 3) have a weak diggestion...some food are eaten and than come out almost as they where when swallowed! Of course they are rotten and digested... but not well digested if you understand me....is it normal? what can I do??? ( sorry for the poor english!!!)

Hi Felipe,
I would say that it is not normal for food to pass through undigested. Are you sure that the food is not being regurgitated? Mine occasionally regurgitate worms that disagree with them and it sometimes looks like half digested food.

What temperature do you keep them at? And how often do you feed them? I guess that a combination of over feeding and high temperatures (therefore higher metabolism) might result in undigested food.

Well...the food is not total undigested... their <font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font> (sorry, I dont know other word for this) is in a diferent shape of the food but usualy in the same color! Yes, I think that here is too hot and I am overfeeding them! When I see then asking for food I cant hold myself!

Some kinds of food "come through" in a less-digested condition, for example mealworms and fly larvae (maggots). What kind of foods do you give them? Try earthworms and/or pellet foods for a couple of weeks, and be sure not to overfeed.

i have found that when mine eat too much too often then they just seem to process it faster and its less broken down-looking much like it went in -i have seen this in p waltl with worms and turtle sticks.

I feed my pleuros with earthworms ( they are rejecting worms now...I dont know why!), mealworms sometimes, chicken meat, cow heart (they just love it!), crickets, pellets... I think they are eating too much....
