Do Axolotl gills grow back?

Well first of all, I'm new to the forums, so hello everyone. Worried about my two axolotls that just got 5 days ago. They seem to be doing fine. They're eating and everything really seems to check out okay, but I made a huge mistake and thought they'd be ok with my fish. And they were until the next day... the fish have nipped at their gills and even made my albino axolotl bleed. Tossed all of my goldfish into the pond outside of my apartment. So exactly as the topic says, after having their gills being eatten off basically, will they grow back? I've been reading around on the forums and I'm seeing a lot of mixed messages and I would like a definite yes or no.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your gorgeous axolotls!

Your white one is a leucistic, not an albino by the way ^_^ Leucistics have black eyes and freckles, albinos have pink eyes.

They should grow back - they might grow back a slightly different shape, and it might take a few weeks, but axolotls are remarkable for their ability to heal.

In the meantime, make sure you are keeping the water clean and cool and keep a close eye on the gills for any infection or fungus. Fungus looks like wispy cotton wool. If anything starts to look odd, take pictures and post on here right away and we can help you through the next steps.

I have a leucistic female axolotls and male black axolotls, my female axolotl I got first and one of her gills was missing, I've had her for over a month now and her gill hasn't grown back, also one of her gills next to the missing one is being bent inward. Any ideas on how to help me ?

The second photo clearly shows the gill missing and is when I first got her, the second is a couple of weeks ago and shows the gill bent inward.
