Do they eat much in winter?

I got my first axolotl 5 days ago, and I asked the pet shop owner how often I should feed him/her, and they said once or twice a week, because they don't eat much in winter (freezing here right now).

It ate a pellet the other day and since then it hasn't eaten any more pellets, so I thought that maybe the pet shop owner was right, but Im not so sure =/ Does anyone know if this is true?

Outside temperature means almost nothing to critters indoors. Whats your tank temp at? For an adult, probably every other day would be fine.

From what I have heard adults will only eat about 3 times a week. Smaller axies will eat more often. I have a 5 inch juvenile axie and he eats 1 or even 2 times a day.

Grant - Adult axolotls will usually eat every day if food is offered every day. That does not mean that adult axolotls need to eat every day. It would depend on the amount of food offered at each feeding.

Carley - I have not noticed that the seasons cause any change in my axolotls feeding. As Brian said the temp outside has little to do with the axolotl inside.

What would have an affect is the temp of your tank water. At cooler temps axolotls slow down and do not eat as much.

Try feeding an earth worm they are rarely refused.

I know they will eat when offered because they are opportunistic eaters, but from what I have heard adults should only be fed about 3 times a week while younger juvenile axies should be fed daily. Right?
