Dock or ramp for 2.5 gallon tank

Hello, I have a 2.5 gallon tank for my fire belly newt. Since it is a small tank, I want to maximize the water space by having something that floats up in the water, however ive been to tons of pets stores,and yet no sucess finding anything for it. Do you know what I can fit in it or what I should do for it ? Also can I build something for it? If so what? I was thinking since foam works maybe I could use that but the material is rather ruff and wouldnt be good for froogle's skin so i left that option out so far. Any help would be really appreciated ! As for your ramp you could build something with plexiglass, but that will be rather involved. I think the easiest thing would be to find some corkbark. It floats and is usually pretty easy to find. Most good pet stores carry it or you can order it online.

When you say "foam" what material do you mean exactly? I don't think the roughness would be a problem, but I'm not sure what material you are thinking of.

I have used styrafoam with great success as a floating island. Its cheap and easily obtainable. It grows green algae pretty well, and java moss covers it up nicely. My Cp's have never gotten abrasions or scratches on the foam, either, so I think its pretty safe.

I managed to buy a 11 inch by 5 inch terrapin ramp which is attached to the back of the tank by two rods attached to suction cups.
The ramp has two holes for the plastic rods which allows the ramp to rise and fall with the water level. It is easy to clean and my cfb's have had no difficulties using it.

I have a turtle ramp that I used for a 2.5 Gal tank. its a little large but it works real well. I think I got it off of DrsFosterSmith.com.
