Dried Paramecia?

I have been reviewing some things with a view towards the next hatching season...
I'm reading in my copy of Staniszewski's Amphibians in Captivity (p. 104): "Live paramecia can be obtained in the form of a dried cake or tablets consisting of ...cysts....On introducing a section of the cake/tablet into water the cysts activate quickly..."
I haven't seen these for sale anywhere and "my" petstore never heard of them. Are they something that used to be available, and no longer is, or just available in Europe, or what? Does anyone know?

Well, I doubt this is something you can find at a petstore unless they were crazy specialist. I did find some paramecium cultures for sale at the various biological supply warehouses. As far as I can tell these were organisms already suspended in medium which is probably not what you are looking for. The aforementioned supply houses would probably be the best place to find them and you might have to contact one of their representatives.
