Nice photos. it's interesting to see how fast they grow.

The darker animals seem to be close to metamorphosis, judging from the reduced gills and overall colour.

Yes, the darkening is a sure sign they are about to morph fairly soon. A couple of years ago, I lost one that climbed the glass wall with gills still present! I've since heard it's not uncommon for larvae of this species.
