my golden axie and either my (its either a melanoid of a wildtype) have had babies. albino is a boy, other is a girl. it is darker than my other wildtype one, she looks more black. she has sort of gold rings round her eyes but it looks quit similar to my other wildtype i think.

what colour will the babies be? the eggs are half black and half white. or are all eggs like this? ive seen pics of eggs in books but its hard to tell the exact colour.

Ok Jenny,

I'll just discuus the relevant colour genes not the whole bunch of 4.

Caps = dominant small case = recessive

The golden is an albino of type a/a M/M or a/a M/m
The other is a wldtype (if it had black/brown eye rings then you would be certain he was melanoid). There can be quite a lot of variance in wildtype colouring both of mine are very dark but still mottled green.

Ok so your wild type must be A/a or A/A and we have no way f telling what the combo of melanoid genes are at this stage.

If all the eggs are dark then your wildtype is A/A and all the babies will be A/a also dark (wildtype).

If the eggs are half white/pale and the other half are dark then your wildtype is A/a and you should have approx 50% albino and 50% wildtype.

Now the presence of the distribution gene (d/d) and the melanoid genes (m/m) may upset the numbers as it is possible that you may have some leucisitcs and mlanoids. We just can't say until we know the result of the mating. If you count the various types of hatchlings (leucys being easy to spot amongst albinos) it should be possible to extrapolate some of the other genes.

Oops just caught your last line so you already know that answer you have half albino and half wildtype.

So your albinos should be golden if nay turn out white let me know. If any albinos have jet black eyes let me know.

Best of luck with them Jenny...get reading up on brine shrimp hatcheries etc. & collect lots of containers to keep them in.
