a lot of my elodea started to look bad, loosing leaves and turning brownish and the nitrate levels raised, I was wondering why did they all of a sudden start to die?? I took a bunch of them out and put back a few little nice healthy looking pieces

could it have been to many plants??

Well, causes for this could vary greatly. How long has your vivarium been running? If you have a large amount of tannins in the water, your pH will undoubtedly take a plunge, causing the anacharis to brown and die. If the tank has been running for a while without enough water changes, you might have run out of the micro-nutrients necessary to keep your plants healthy. Finally, if the plants weren't receiving sufficient light (ie: they were obscured by a large piece of driftwood/lilypad/etc) they will also die. Any of these ring a bell?

hmmm, well its not the tannins, maybe some was being obscured of light from the turtle dock

the tank has been running since december, and I was starting to get some snails apearing I figured that might be doing it, but I wasn't seeing enough snail for me to think this
