hi,
i just got a tank and all the set up today. i'm waiting for my new axolotls to come within a few days. so i'm testing everything out before their arrival. as of right now i have 2 "sticker thermometers" which i know probably are not that accurate. however, they say high temps of 24-26 degrees C. we are trying to cool it down before they come by opening the lid on the top of the tank half way. my main question then is can they escape? the water is 2/3 full.

thanks!

Axolotls may jump some centimeters out of the water if startled. So if you have your tank only 2/3 filled, that should be enough if there are still 8-10 cm air above the waters surface.
If you have these temperature issues, I would advice you to completely leave the lid aside and possibly place a fan / ventilator at the tank for cooling. The lid and light will additionally heat up your water.
