Did some salamander hunting today in kentucky. I only saw 2 species; Eurycea cirrigera and E.longicauda. Here is a pic of a longicauda(hopefully)......

That's a very dark cirrigera. I've seen some cirrigera before from KY/OH border areas and they were nice and golden. Interesting.
 
Well that dark cirrigera is really large (and maybe really old?). That was the only adult I saw from that site, so I don't have any others to compare it to.
 
That E.longicauda is truly an amazing creature, one of the prettiest sals I've ever seen. Nice pics too! Seeing these, I might just start getting into N. American sals after all...
 
Erik, I'd like to do some salamander hunting here in MA. I know we have marble salamanders in the state, and I'd like to find some. Any suggestions on where and when to look? How do I really go about finding these little guys?
