Eurycea - standing on rear legs

I saw this Eurycea stand on it’s back legs like this for quite some time, still like a statue, staring up at the sky. The only thing I can think is that they have learnt that fruit flies sometimes walk across the lid of the tank and as they have a long tongue flick can just about reach them from this stance. I’ve never seen anything like it before.

Thats a really great shot. Those animals are so cool with their acrobatic abilities. I once lost one when I was flipping logs along a stream only to find it again 20 mins later clinging to the side of the bucket I was carrying.

My Two-Lineds do the same thing. Salamanders are pretty smart I guess.
