Eye regeneration

I just bought a small male C. orientalis who appears to be half way through regenerating an eye. The new eye is about half the size then the other one and has no Iris. I think that its eye was eaten by its tank mate at the pet store, a young , 4 inch, Pleurodeles watl. How long will it take the new eye to grow to its full size and look normal again, and should I keep my newt separated from others (of the same species) while this is happening?

Well for any one who was interested in this thread but didn't know enough about regeneration to reply, after two weeks the eye has grown, now has an iris, and has gone from light blue to a darker blue.

Here's a picture. It turns out that the newt is actually a female and a bit camera shy, I would be two if I were regenerating an eye.

Hey Ben,

Thanks for looking after my ex-newt so well (I saw the picture in the Paramesotriton Personalities string). She appears to have put on some weight in the three weeks or so that you've had her. Glad to see that she still likes her food.
I recognise the Tomato Soup bowl in the first picture.

They have a nice Clearseal 2 foot tank looking for a home at that place in Kingston that I was telling you about. Go and have a look if you're interested.

Pete.
